The Skinny

I mentioned awhile ago that I was trying to lose some weight. I'm happy to report that I met my weight goal, and I've been able to maintain a BMI of 21.5. I largely credit Lose It! for my success. (That's not exactly blog-pimping, as it's a free application.)

[Sorry for the self-serving post. I'll write something more interesting soon. My book research has turned up some unsavory characters in the field of early holographic research. Maybe I'll share one of those stories in the future.]

OK, you've been raving about this iPhone app for months, and now my co-workers are too. Alas, there's no (non-sucky) equivalent for my Android phone, so I pulled the dusty iphone out of the drawer and I'm *super* impressed with the user interface! I may just carry the iphone around just to use this app...

Lose It! is easy to use, which makes it easy to make a habit of logging calories and exercise. However I discovered the hard way that I have become just a smidge dependent on the app. Specifically, just before we headed to New York City for the weekend, my iPhone flaked out during a synch and deleted all of my private information. I got everything critical restored (contacts, passwords, etc.), but didn't have time to retrieve everything else. (A blog entry on restoring a lobotomized iPod may be forthcoming...)

So anyway... Manhattan without my calorie counter. I just sort of winged it. My scale now tells me that I just sort of gained five pounds.

Ouch.
